A grounded Pokémon is affected by effects that apply to the ground, such as certain entry hazards, terrain, and some moves. Flying types and Pokémon with Levitate-like effects are often not grounded unless an effect removes that immunity. This matters because a non-grounded Pokémon may avoid Spikes, Toxic Spikes, Sticky Web, and terrain benefits or restrictions, while still being affected by Stealth Rock in most games. Items, moves, and special mechanics can change grounded status temporarily. When planning hazard or terrain strategies, check whether each target is actually grounded rather than judging only by its visible type.
